Wondering how to use astrology daily without needing a full-on star chart and decoder ring? Good news! You don’t need to be an expert to start. Seriously!
Daily astrology is simply a way to check in with the energy of the day and your own inner world, or building an intentional astrology check-in process that works for you.
Or perhaps, you're striving for more intention and awareness for your moon rituals and affirmations.
Don't think of this as your “prediction” effort for each day, but more of, “hey, I wanna learn astrology and make my own interpretations of my chart”.
So, in this post, I'll walk you through some of my fave daily astrology practices, and give you a beginner's guide walk-through. Let's begin!

Understanding Your Birth Chart
Before we go further, yep… hear that, car break? That's us making sure you have your birth chart in hand, or can easily get it when you need to.
If you're not sure what I'm sharing be sure to check out this beginner's guide: what is a daily astrology practice?
(note, you can generate your chart for free on Astro.com, here's my video on it).
Your birth chart, aka cosmic blueprint, aka lottery to life!, spells out exactly the core elements you should pay attention to, and that's the Sun, Moon and Rising signs.
The Big 3, as they're called, will tell you all kinds of things about how you show up (Rising sign), how you do your emotions (Moon sign), and what lights you up (Sun sign). The natal chart also includes the remaining 8 planets, and many other parts, like asteroids, and your North Node.
Get Ready Guide
To build yourself a daily astrology routine and practice, then first get that birth chart, and have these in hand:
- a journal, or something to write on
- a calendar, whether that's paper or digital, you choose
- a goal! yes, how long do you want to do this for? A week? A month? Longer? Set a goal and stick to it!
- what's your intention for daily tracking? Write that down too, so you don't forget… (no shade… my menopause brain sympathizes. 😆)

How to read your chart for beginner – in 5 simple steps

Building a Daily Astrology Routine
Lots of people enjoy reading daily horoscopes from an app, journal, book, etc. to help them navigate their day to day.
Others, like me, and likely you, ignore those apps, books, videos, etc, and prefer a more personal manner to learning astrology and building a personal daily astrology routine.
Or you're both? Either way, what I share below can help you learn and grow with astrology.
Checking The Daily Horoscope
Yes, me too, I did this too. My fave was the horoscopes from the AstroTwins, and then I got bored with the lack of depth (I have Jupiter in Scorpio, in the 9th House… a very happy place for Jupiter, but its also RX and in the intense sign of the Scorpion… I need depth in my desire for growth and personal expansion).
If you do check your daily horoscope, keep this in mind:
- Reading your Rising Sign first, then Sun, and finally your Moon. Why Rising sign first? Because, that lays out the rest of the astrology houses, and you'll have a better understanding of WHERE things are happening in your life.
- Be mindful and read with detachment: Remember, daily horoscopes, can only go so far in telling you exactly what's happening in your life.
- You have context: You are the ultimate judge on what's truly happening in your life.
The astrology apps, or even astrological consults, can only present you with the possibilities.
Hence, why I teach astrology in my monthly membership, Unveiled Path Circle, and advocate for all to become their own astrologers, and cosmic guides.
Use the apps as a starting point for self-reflection, but continue with your own practical efforts to change and evolve too!

Using the Moon Phases
The moon’s phase can influence how you feel and what flows easily each day. During the New Moon, it’s helpful to set intentions or write down something you want to call in. The Full Moon is a time to check in, notice what’s coming up, and gently release what you’ve outgrown.
And, when the moon is Void of Course (making no aspects with other planets), focus on rest, reflection, or tying up loose ends.
The moon also travels through a different zodiac sign every 2.5 days. Each Zodiac sign highlights certain emotions or themes. You might feel more energized, focused, sensitive, or dreamy depending on the day.
A quick moon check in the morning can help you align your plans with how the energy feels and with what your body and heart might need.
In my moon rituals blog area, I share 22 new moon rituals and intentions if you're needing more ideas, and soulful writing prompts for new moons.

Noting Planetary Movements
Want to go beyond the Moon?
Great! So, to do that, you will keep up with daily planetary movements using an app, an ephemeris, or a website like Astro.com.
As you get to know your birth chart, the cosmic updates will show you where opportunities, challenges, or important themes might pop up.
Even paying attention to just one key planet in your chart can help you focus on that part of your life or become more aware as you learn more about astrology.
Do a vibe check each day by looking up the chart of the day, or track one planet over a longer period.
I recommend watching the movements of your Rising sign’s ruler or another planet you feel drawn to. Stretch your wings!
For example, you might choose to follow:
- Mercury for communication and mental clarity.
- Venus for harmony and social flow.
- Mars for drive and energy.
- Outer planets for slow, transformational cycles.
Another fun way to honor and work with the planets is by using the structure of Planetary days into your day to day routine.
This ancient practice says that each day is ruled by a planet, and therefore we should practice activities associated with that planet on that day, such as:
- Monday: Moon (emotions, home)
- Tuesday: Mars (action, courage)
- Wednesday: Mercury (communication)
- Thursday: Jupiter (growth, wisdom)
- Friday: Venus (love, harmony)
- Saturday: Saturn (structure, discipline)
- Sunday: Sun (creativity, vitality)
I hope you're seeing a pattern here… when we practice astrology, we simply do the things associated with those archetypes.

3 Easy Ideas: How To Use Astrology Daily
1. Journaling With Astrology
Astrology journaling is simply the practice of incorporating astrology into your journaling practice. And why? Well, we learn when we use our hands to write things down, whether that's on a digital device or paper (go with paper!).
The astrology part helps you notice how cosmic patterns connect with your daily life.
By tracking moods, wins, and little shifts, you’ll start to see what supports you and when. Over time, it becomes a tool for clarity, self-care, and personal growth.
Use journaling to explore your astrology, as well as, the planetary weather around you:
- Track your emotions and energy with each moon phase or sign
- Note any shifts during Mercury, Venus, or Mars transits
- Use daily prompts to explore patterns or reflect on choices
- Set intentions at the New Moon and revisit them at the Full Moon
- Journal your self-care needs based on planetary energy (Ex: rest on a Moon day, move on a Mars day)
- Reflect on relationship dynamics with astrology insights
- Pay attention to timing for honest convos, deeper connection, or space for boundaries
2. Setting Intentions and Goals
Astrology helps me time my goals with natural cycles, so things feel more aligned and supported. For many, including myself, this provides clarity and space to let things be, instead of pushing.
Here's a few ways to set intentions and goals with astrology:
- Choose days with supportive energy (like Venus for love, Mars for motivation) to begin something new
- Write a goal or wish at each New Moon to plant a seed
- Check in at the First Quarter Moon to take aligned action
- Reflect and release at the Full Moon, what’s shifted or feels heavy?
- Use your astrology journal to track what worked, what felt off, and what you learned
- Let slower days guide rest, reflection, or gentle planning instead of pushing through

3. Astrology for Relationships
There's like 2-3 major questions every astrology newbie asks, this is one of them… Who are my peeps? What is my relationship outlook? Am I right or what?
Let's just say, we can all greatly benefit from studying the Zodiac for compatibility tips, as well as, the core framework of how humans work. LOL
So, how could you use astrology for relationships? Aside from understanding your core Venus and 7th House needs, among others?
Here's how very quickly and not exhaustively 😉 :
- Do we vibe? Check each other's Sun signs for compatibility in friendship, love or career. My free zodiac sign compatibility quiz can help you with that.
- Let's have a talk: Finding the “perfect” time for anything is not always possible. But…if you know their Moon sign, you can look for days that the transiting Moon is applying support to your friend's Moon Sign's. Ex: Their Moon is in Aries, and the transiting Moon could be in another fire sign.
- Boundaries. Each birth chart will give you clues about that individual's relationship with boundaries, whether they're top notch, or just spilling all over the place. Look at your Saturn, Sun, Moon, Rising, and your Mars for indicators if you're a pushover or boundary breaker. The full spectrum is out there, so let's have some compassion, ya'll.

Astrology Tools & Apps
I'll admit I'm the worst mobile apps user out there! I don't have a ton on my device, and nor do I constantly download them. So, when I do have something on my device it better work extra hard in my life, or it's out!
My biggest teachers and helpers in my astrological practice have been my astrology teachers at Portland School of Astrology, astrology books, blank journals, the latest ephemeris (a large time-table of all planetary movements by day, for each year for X many years), and my awesome fountain pens.
Plus, all of the rituals I have done to activate and work with my chart!
Best Astrology Apps for Daily Use
If you're seeking the best astrology apps for daily use, I would consider the following:
- Time Nomad – best free app for tracking current planetary weather WITHOUT the interpretation. Charts presented in different ways, so we can all learn in diff ways.
- Time Passages Pro – get the paid version if you can, so you can track more than one chart at a time. It gives you the ability to look up your natal chart, transits to your chart, and progressions (more advanced stuff).
- Deluxe Moon – epic for tracking moon phases and all things moon. There's a paid version now, but the free is still ok to use.
Note how I don't mention Co-Star, Lila or Chani? I don't consider those to be super helpful if you're trying to understand the why behind that day's horoscope, or how to use it more broadly in your life.
The apps will always be limited compared to your own personal growth efforts and what you do beyond the screen. Go beyond the screen.

Common Questions About Daily Astrology
How do I find out my zodiac sign?
Look up your birth date, and generate a full birth chart. For example, if you were born between March 21 and April 19, you would be an Aries Sun. There are 12 signs, each linked to certain dates.
Should I let astrology make my decisions?
I use astrology as a tool, not a rule. It helps me reflect and spot patterns, but I trust myself to make choices.
What are retrogrades and do they matter?
When Mercury or another planet is in retrograde, it appears to move backward. Many notice delays or mix-ups during this time, so I try to double-check details and stay patient.
Where can I learn more about astrology basics?
My monthly membership! I host monthly and quarterly events for my members, including full access to a growing library of videos, workbooks, journals and more. Check it out here.
