You don’t need to memorize the entire zodiac to understand your 2nd house. Just know this: The 2nd house is the part of your chart that reveals how you relate to money, self-worth, confidence, and what you truly value.
Think of it as your inner vault. Not just the dollars and cents kind, but the emotional kind too. How safe you feel in the world.
What you believe you're worthy of. And how you go about building security, both spiritually and financially.
Every chart has a 2nd house, and it always tells a story about what you value, and how you define it.

Step 1 – How to Generate Your Birth Chart Online
Before you can find your 2nd house, you need your full birth chart. Luckily, you don’t need to be an astrologer or own a crystal ball to do this. All you need is your birth date, time, and location.
I like to use Astro.com to generate free birth charts, and using Whole Sign Houses to map out my chart.

Pro tip: Enter your exact birth time if you can. Even being off by a few minutes can shift your house placements. If you don’t know your exact time, try to get it from your birth certificate or a family member who might remember (or at least make an educated guess).
Once you’ve entered your details, you’ll see your birth chart wheel: a circle divided into 12 sections. That’s where the treasure hunt begins.
Next stop: finding your 2nd house.
Step 2 – Find the 2nd House in Your Natal Chart
Now that you’ve got your birth chart in front of you, it’s time to find your 2nd house. This part can look confusing at first, but I promise it’s easier than it seems.
Your chart wheel is divided into 12 slices, kind of like a pie. Each slice represents a different house, and they’re numbered 1 through 12, usually in small print around the center or outer edge of the circle.
Here’s what to do:
- Look for the number 2 on the chart wheel. That’s your 2nd house.
- Find the zodiac sign sitting on the cusp, or edge, of that house slice. That’s the sign ruling your 2nd house.
- See if any planets are inside that slice. They’ll usually be marked with familiar symbols, like ☉ for the Sun or ☿ for Mercury.
🌀 Quick example: If your 2nd house starts in Taurus and you’ve got the Moon inside that section, you’ll want to write down “2nd house in Taurus with the Moon.”
That’s it for now. No need to interpret anything yet.

Step 3 – Note Your 2nd House Sign and Planets
Now that you’ve spotted your 2nd house on the chart, it’s time to collect the three main puzzle pieces. Don’t worry about what they mean just yet. For now, we’re just gathering data like the curious little astro-sleuth you are.
Here’s what to write down:
- The sign on the cusp of your 2nd house.
This tells you the flavor of energy influencing your relationship with money, values, and self-worth. - Any planets inside the 2nd house.
These are like cosmic roommates that add extra layers of meaning or focus to that area of life. - (Optional) The ruling planet of your 2nd house sign.
This is a more advanced step, but if you’re feeling curious, find the planet that rules (aka planetary rulership) your 2nd house sign and note where it lives in your chart.
Example: If your 2nd house is in Libra, its ruling planet is Venus. You’d then check where Venus shows up in your chart.
