When you begin your astrology exploration, and its use in life…the first thing you'll likely ask is “what's my big 3″, and then shortly after, you'll ask…”what is a daily astrology practice?”. AmIRite? (I did and haven't stopped asking questions since, lol)
Briefly, a daily astrology practice is you committing to (not like a marriage though, more like a part-time lover energy level type of thing) using astrological insights to help inform that day's approach to people, places and things, along with your potential emotional happenings that may need some TLC, among other insights.
Kind of like your cliff-notes for that day's vibe.
And that practice can be as involved, or as simple as you wish… I even have a daily astrology planner to get you started.
Just keep reading… I share that freebie with you below. K?

Astrology Basics You Should Know Before You Start
Before you go any further, let's level set, and get the framework in place for ya. Here's a quick rundown of astrology basics for beginners, and what you should know before you start:
- Astrology is the study of planetary movement and their correspondence and correlations with human activity on Earth
- To learn astrology you begin with interpretating and getting to know your birth chart like nobody's bizzwacks
- Your birth chart is a celestial map of all 10 planets' location in the sky at the time of your birth, plus a few other calculated things & celestial bodies
- A birth chart can be interpreted to understand personality quirks, your life purpose, why you love the way you love, and so much more!
- Your Big 3 = Your Sun, Moon and Rising Signs; each with their own story, and sometimes shared if in the same sign!
- You can practice astrology, aka use the wisdom of astrology to navigate life, as well as tap into energies in an intentional manner
Don't miss this my take on what astrology myths for beginners to ignore.

What Is A Daily Astrology Practice In Simple Terms
There's like 3 types of people out there when it comes to astrology: 1) don't know anything about astrology, heard of the word and don't really care, 2) they know the word “astrology”, and want to know more, 3) yep, I know astrology, and I'm fully on board with the mindful use of this tool & language.
If you're here, you're likely in #2 group. I went from #1, didn't care one bit, to #3, I'm fully committed to making this my life path!
Back to our topic…. what is a daily astrology practice? I have two answers for you.
The first is the typical route most people know about (group #1 above, for sure, and some of #2):
- Each day, the main 10 astrological planet's location is mapped in the skies; aka, chart of the day
- That chart is interpreted by astrologers, and shared as daily horoscopes, sometimes weekly, monthly or yearly
- A daily horoscope is written for each Zodiac sign
- You can read for your Sun's Zodiac sign, or for your rising sign (my reco)
- Use that daily horoscope to inform your day to day
- That day to day activity is a daily astrology practice
OR….. You could follow the self-empowered route of using astrology daily for personal growth.
You can:
- Learn to read your birth chart, and ditch the generic daily horoscopes
- Track planetary movements and transits that ARE relevant to your birth chart's focus (not all planetary transits matter to you or your chart!)
- Use tools like journaling, check lists, meditation, drawing, dancing, etc to interpret and embody astrological wisdom
- Commit to finding your strengths with astrology ๐

Why A Daily Astrology Practice Is A Radical Choice For Self-Awareness
This is when I jump unto my “astrology can save the world” soapbox… so, let me get this out real quick.
Astrology is more than generic horoscopes, click-bait YouTube shorts, and your latest Instagram cosmic star…
For me, astrology is a tool for self-discovery, empowerment, personal alignment, and timing magic and full on life path focus, aka Quest Mystic. (hi!)
I shared my story here: how astrology changed my life.
At the beginning of my astrological studies, creating and maintaining a daily practice was critical for my commitment to learning astrology, and applying its wisdom in my daily life.
Think of it this way… if you want to become an expert meditator, do you only meditate once a year? Or do you slowly, and consistently build up a meditation practice?
You stepping into this desire to learn astrology is tremendous.
And by creating and maintaining a daily astrology practice you are making a radical choice for self-care, personal growth, and self-awareness.
How so?
- You're prioritizing YOU on a daily basis
- You're building an invaluable tool for your personal growth toolbox
- You're empowered to make informed choices per your natal chart's blueprint (another term for birth chart)
- You get to choose what cosmic insight is for you, and what is not
- You're exposed to unfiltered cosmic truths detailing your gifts and your challenges, aka things you would rather not talk about.
- And overtime, you strengthen your astrological knowledge, a gift to your growth and how you navigate life.
Bonus benefit? You're now using astrology to live in alignment every day! Win!

Beginner Ideas: How To Use Astrology Daily
Your daily astrology practice can help to uncover life areas that may need your help….maybe you have difficulties with self-esteem? or you notice emotional outbursts frequently during certain periods of time?
Both of those queries, and more can be tracked and explored in a daily astrology practice.
Here's how to use astrology daily and build up a daily cosmos practice:
- Focus on the element that's lacking in your birth chart (is it fire, earth, air or water?), and only do those types of activities
- Track the moon's daily transit for emotional pattern insights
- Follow each day's planetary vibe (also known as planetary days) to help inform and prioritize your day. Maybe you do this for your business life vs. personal life. Or both.
- Based on your chart ruler's focus and purpose, or most powerful planet in your chart, align your actions for the day
- Pick one astrological house, and do that house's Zodiac sign theme. A Cancer House, for example, could be caretaking, real estate, nurturing kids, homeschooling, etc…
- Pick a planet you have a hard time identifying with, and journal with that planet's theme
- Track one transit at a time to get familiar with your birth chart
Next, I'll share my tips for how to get started with your cosmos loving practice.
How To Get Started With Your Daily Astrology Practice
Now that you've read my list of astrology practice ideas, let me share with you how I got started with my daily astrology practice.
I had just started the Portland School of Astrology, and learned about the Moon's shift from sign to sign every 2.5 days or so. As a Cancer Sun, the Moon is my ruler. The Moon's placement in my chart is quite important.
Having my two luminaries in such a relationship is not unique, but what adds a layer of interesting, is the fact that the two of them are in stressful relationship in my chart (Sun square Moon, in case you have it too).

Understanding this opened a tsunami of Aha moments… enough so, that I wanted to learn more about my emotional patterns and needs, and how they conflict with my ego needs, and purpose.
Moon vs. the Sun.
And how can they work together for me? That's when the daily astrology practice came in.
A daily time and place for me to dive deep into shadow stories, track daily mood levels, recognize emotional patterns and triggers.
So for you, I recommend:
- Picking one of the beginner daily astrology practice ideas to start with, don't complicate things.
- Commit to that one practice for at least 7 days, and if it's necessary pick another, otherwise stick to that one practice for the whole month.
- Use my daily astrology planner to help you track your thoughts and insights, and the planetary news
- After 30 days of one practice, review, and ponder… what did I learn about myself? What has changed since this new insight? What would I like to change or redirect in my life?

What You Need To Get Started With A Daily Astrology Practice
To be honest, you couldn't have picked a better self-improvement practice and tool, when you choose astrology for personal growth.
Your list of what's needed is short:
- Learn how to read your horoscope beyond your Sun Sign
- Learn the glyphs, symbols and aspects of astrology
- An astrology app or ephemeris to tell ya what's what in the day's planetary weather
- A journal to track all of that day's particulars (or grab planner above to get started asap): date, planet positions, your natal chart points that are relevant (optional), and space to jot down your thoughts and what you think this transit means for you
- A paper or digital calendar to track your progress
- Optional: Use astrology dice, and skip the astro tracking app or ephemeris. Ask the dice what you need to focus on or learn today.
My Favorite Apps for Astrology Tracking
This question comes up often when beginners get into astrology. Briefly, I don't use the popular astrology apps for tracking planetary weather.
What I recommend are simpler apps that look like mathematical tables or pizza pies ๐. My fave apps for astrology tracking are:
- TimeNomad – use to track planetary hours and days
- Time Passages Pro – best app out there for storing your birth chart and others, as well as getting daily transit charts
- Deluxe Moon – I love the amount of info you can track just for the Moon. For you, just use it to look up the latest moon phase calendar.
Try not to complicate things for yourself, pick one app for what you need now, before moving on to the next thing.
Is the Moon in your plans? Then check out this moon journaling for manifestation guide.
Just remember… baby steps!
